Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) is a non-profit institution having as its primary goal the promotion of Italy's technological development and the creation of scientific knowledge. Research at IIT is carried out in highly innovative scientific fields with state-of-the-art technology.
IIT was established in 2003 and successfully created a large-scale infrastructure in Genova and a network of 10 state-of-the-art laboratories countrywide with an international staff of about 1100 people from more than 50 countries. IIT's research endeavour focuses on high-tech and innovation, representing the forefront of technology with possible application from medicine to industry, computer science, robotics, life sciences and nano-biotechnologies.
A post-doctoral position is available for highly motivated candidates in Nanobiotech division at the Center for Nanotechnology Innovation (CNI) in Pisa.
We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated candidates with backgrounds in nanobiotechnology, nanomedicine, biochemistry, biology or related areas to carry out research on th above illustrated topic, namely “in-vitro and in-vivo evaluation of functionalized nanovectors for theranostics”. The nature of the project is multidisciplinary and aims at the development and application of novel nanomedicine tools for theranostics.
The successful candidate will play a significant role in the development of in-vitro and in-vivo testing of:
- nano-vectors for the controlled release of drugs in specific targets
- smart contrast agents based on targeting nano-devices
- Identification of biomolecular targets for the engineering of improved nano-vectors.
He/She will be working on a challenging project covering the fields of chemical synthesis, surface functionalization and biology. The final long-term goal of the project is the application of the products to real medical issues.
We are looking for scientists capable of managing interdisciplinary research projects with a high level of independence whilst working in close collaboration with other scientists having complementary expertise. Ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team of physicist, chemists and biologists is mandatory.
Eligible candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in biology, molecular biophysics or related fields and at least two years of postdoctoral research activity. Excellent communication skills in English as well as marked enthusiasm for research and creativity are mandatory. A previous experience in in-vivo and in-vitro imaging techniques is a plus but not mandatory.
The successful candidate will be offered an internationally competitive package commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Deadline for applications is May 31, 2015.
