Postdoctoral position on “Development of 3D neoplasm models” - [ Postdoc ]

Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia – IIT is opening a post-doctoral position with the focus on “Development of 3D neoplasm models” to work on the project “Biodegradable noble metal-based nano-architectures as theranostics agents over head/neck neoplasms” supported by AIRC Grant MFAG 2017” (project n.  19852 - CUP J53C18000010007).

The project is multidisciplinary in nature and its final aim is the development of non-invasive treatments for head/neck neoplasms.

The research will involve the design and production of 3D models of neoplasms and their employment in the evaluation of innovative nanomaterials. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with national and international partners.

The selected candidate will work under the supervision Dr. Valerio Voliani at the Center for Nanotechnology Innovation (CNI) in Pisa. The CNI is an interdisciplinary R&D center dedicated to the investigation and exploitation of phenomena at the nanoscale coordinated by Dr. Mauro Gemmi.

Eligibility criteria:

  • PhD in Biology, Nanomedicine, Biophysics, Biomedical or Materials Science, or related fields;
  • expertise in cells culture;
  • skills in dynamic light scattering, transmission/scanning electron microscopy, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, and confocal microscopy are preferred;

The ideal candidate should have previous experience in chemical production and application of nanotheranostics (in particular for photoacoustic imaging, X-ray CT, PET, MRI, chemoradiotherapy). Experience on nanomaterials efficacy assessment as well as on in vivo investigations is a plus for this position.   

Previous post-doctoral research experience is not mandatory. Excellent communication skills in English, as well as marked enthusiasm for research and creativity, are required. We value scientists who can interact effectively with an interdisciplinary team, have a high degree of independence and take accountability for their project.

Salary will be commensurate to qualifications and experience and in line with international standards.

CNI is back in operation!

From today 4th of May CNI has started its way to go back to normal operation. Following the recommended safety procedures for COVID-19, the researchers started their activities in the TEM, Raman spectroscopy, 2D materials growth and characterization laboratories. Soon chemical synthesis and nanoteranostic will follow. The number of researchers that enter the lab every day is still limited but as the things will go better it will growth to normal condition. We hope also that soon PhD students and master student can join us prosecuting their thesis projects.
